I sat beneath my favoite spot... the apple tree. It's massive limbs spread over me, protecting my pale skin from harmful rays. My family, the Bardwells, had only a faint idea of how old the tree is. We can only look at it's size. I say it is at least two hundred years old, but my parents say it could be no more than a hundred. An apple, plopping on my head, interrupted my thoughts. I picked it up and stared at the shiny, red surface. It looked normal, yet something was different. The apples have always seemed to possess a magic. They catch your eyes and hypnotize you, holding your gaze. I can usually break away within a few minutes and as soon as I bite into it the magic is gone. But this apple was different. It didn't catch my eyes. Someting was wrong- but what? The tree was normal, and as always huge. The mossy grass was still soft and comtrable. And then it hit me- the animals. Where were they?
